Hi, Zenan here. I am an incoming PhD student at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences. I will join Prof. Jian Yan’s lab at CityUHK and work with Prof. Patrick Murphy at Cornell University through the training program.
I study how human transcription factors shape DNA-binding specificity under epigenomic regulation. My research focuses on high-throughput SELEX and ChIP-based approaches to understand how chromatin states and DNA methylation modulate transcription factor binding specificity.
Current Focus
Research: Investigating how DNA methylation reshapes cooperative transcription factor binding.
Methods: Combining high-throughput SELEX with ChIP-based analyses.
Creative work: Producing emotional hip-hop and melodic trap beats.
Life outside the lab: Running, hiking, and photography.
Beyond the Lab
Beyond the lab, I enjoy producing hip-hop beats, running, hiking, and photography. These creative and physical pursuits help me maintain balance and inspiration in scientific research.
I started making music at the age of 18, and since then I have produced over 100 beats across different styles. My music has gained over 7,000 followers and accumulated more than 80 million plays. Hundreds of artists have used my beats in their own work, which continues to motivate me to keep creating and improving.
More about me
I am interested in both scientific discovery and creative expression. For me, research and music are not separate worlds: both require patience, structure, intuition, and a constant desire to explore patterns.
Whether in genomics or in music production, I enjoy building something meaningful from complexity.
